ABOUT US
On February 4th, 1958 an agreement was made between Richard F. Tomlinson and Donald E. Tomlinson of Chester Borough, Morris County, State of New Jersey, trading as Cott Beverages Distributions to sell a soda distributing business located at 347 East Main Street, Chester, New Jersey to Herman W. Fischer of Bedminster Township, Somerset County and Robert F. Thompson of the Village of Oldwick, Hunterdon County both of the State of New Jersey. The new name of the business would be Fischer-Thompson Beverages, Inc. and Eleanor Thompson was named Secretary/Treasurer. As part of the agreement Messrs. Fischer and Thompson purchased franchise rights to Cott, Dad's, Neidick's and Yoo-Hoo along with the various pieces of equipment. • A 1949 Studebaker 1 ½ Ton soda Truck • A 1949 Chevrolet 1 ½ Ton Flat Bed Truck • A 1950 Chevrolet ½ Ton Panel Truck • A 1951 Chevrolet 2 ton Soda Truck • 1 Pallet Lifter • 1 Cash Register • 1 Roller Conveyor • Product Inventory In August of 1961 Herman W. Fischer left the business, but the Fischer name was retained in the Company name. In February of 1964 a fire destroyed the office at 347 East Main Street, Chester and as a result, all the beverage inventory had to be destroyed. The damage was repaired, new inventory obtained and the business continued. 1974 was a landmark year for Cott Natural Flavors as they dominated the market place. In 1974 Robert S. Thompson began his full time career with the Company. In the late 70's and early 80's and then unknown to the Company, a New Age beverage craze was started when Orelia, Evian, Juice Bowl, Gatorade, Old Tyme and Dr. Browns were added to our distribution brands. In 1987 Fischer-Thompson started distribution of Snapple Juice and Soda. In 1989 Douglas Thompson began his full time career with the Company. The growth of the Snapple brand blossomed and as a result the business grew and necessitated a move to larger headquarters at 27 Ironia Road, Flanders in December of 1990. Distribution rights to RC and Diet Rite Cola brands were added in 1991. In 1992 the Company Officer structure was formalized as follows: • Robert F. Thompson CEO • Robert S. Thompson President • Douglas E. Thompson Vice President • Eleanor F. Thompson Secretary/Treasurer November 1995 was a sad time in Fischer-Thompson history when business founder and CEO Robert F. Thompson passed away. The business continued with Robert S. Thompson as President and Douglas Thompson as Vice-President at the helm. In 1996 as a result of continued growth the old Dynepco facility at 25 Ironia Road, Flanders was purchased. Renovation of this facility began in the spring of 1997. In August of 1997 we moved from our location at 27 Ironia Road to our new facility at 25 Ironia Road. The business continued to grow in 1998 when we acquired the distribution rights to Mistic and Stewarts. Over the next 10 years Fischer-Thompson would add and build several major brands including Sobe, Fiji water, Polar, Vitamin Water, Smart Water, Muscle Milk, and Monster. Unfortunately over the same 10 years the industry went through a heavy consolidation period where we saw V-8, Monster, Vitamin Water, and Smart Water bought by Coco-Cola and Sobe, Muscle Milk and Gatorade bought by Pepsi Cola. August 2007 brought another sad time in Fischer- Thompson history with the passing of Eleanor F Thompson. In 2008 the company struggled to replace the continued lost cases. The company's management team quickly looked into new brands and was able to secure brands like Sunny D, Nesquik, Vita Coco, and Xyience Energy among others. As we continue to build and retrieve the lost cases, it was decided in 2010 to add snacks to our portfolio. We began with Deep River Chips, have added Dirty Chips, Pop Chips, and Gringo Jacks, and are currently looking to expand with more brands. In November 2011, the company began to implement a complete overhaul of the company organization. By January 2012, the new structure was in place and included the 3rd generation of the Thompson family. Robbie Thompson joined us as the administrator and Molly Thompson was integrated into the front office staff. In November 2012, Fischer-Thompson, made the decision to heavily reinvest into the company by upgrading its Software and Hardware to the VIP Beverage System. Along with those changes came changes to our route to market so we can run more efficiently. We remain open to exploring new products and ideas so that the successful traditions of Fischer-Thompson Beverages will continue on.
